GrantLedger began as a foundation research tool. Feedback from nonprofit leaders shaped who we are now.
We started as a data company.
We built a foundation research tool to help nonprofits find funders through public IRS filings. We started by serving organizations running their own grant programs.
Within weeks, the same conversation kept happening. The executive directors we worked with ran everything alone. They served as program lead, fundraiser, bookkeeper, board liaison, and the person answering the phone. They already wore too many hats. There was no time to take on grantwriting, too.
They did not need another tool. They did not need another login or another to-do list. They could not afford to hire a grant writer. Every path they found required resources they did not yet have.
These EDs kept asking us to do the work and be compensated once their organizations received funding. At first we said no, because that is what grantwriters had told nonprofits for years.
But the requests kept coming. We realized the existing model isn’t built for the nonprofits that need funding the most.
So we decided to say yes, and that’s how Nonprofit-First Grantwriting was born.
Meet the people doing the work.
Jake Simon
At JPMorgan Private Bank, Jake used data science and machine learning to analyze IRS Form 990 data and identify some of America’s wealthiest prospective clients. He now applies that expertise to helping small and midsized nonprofits find funding.
He studied applied math and economics at Brown, holds a master's in engineering from Columbia, and previously worked as a mathematician at EY.

Nick Dusold
Nick's work starts with the same instinct every time: understand the real problems of the people doing the hard, everyday work, then build something tailored to solve them. He has built and launched products, founded his own company, and spent years in direct sales getting genuinely useful products into the right hands. He and Jake partnered around a shared conviction: that the standards and tools of the for-profit world could be turned toward the organizations the existing system has left behind.

Alexander Rubin
Alexander’s career plan was always to “help people help people.” At GrantLedger, he spends his days with nonprofit leaders who have made helping others their life’s work.
He loves hearing how they got started, what they want to do next, and discussing how they can get there. For Alexander, a grant award means people he’s come to know can do more for the communities they serve.
He’s there from the first onboarding conversation to the final report, helping nonprofit leaders through applications, awards, and updates to their funders. Alexander knows the impact a strong community can have, and it is his goal to make sure communities have the strength to be there for their people.
